Random Drivel

I was thinking about this the other day. I haven’t posted to this blog in almost a year. A lot has happened since last year, too. Well lets see, what are the highlights:

• March 2007: Visited San Salvador, El Salvador, and my family for a week
• April 2007: Work retreat at Pismo Beach, California
• July 2007: Turned 24, vacation for a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
• August 2007: Rode my motorcycle to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 110° heat, won $1200!
• September 2007: RHIT Homecoming in Terre Haute, Indiana
• New Years 2008: Las Vegas, Nevada! Hundreds of thousands of people partying on the Strip
• February 2008: Saw my parents in Irvine/Laguna Beach, California when they flew into town for a wedding
• March 2008: Went back to Mobile, Alabama for Danielle’s wedding, got to see Melissa, Danielle, Jamie, Melissa again, although I missed a few people. I guess I’ll just have to go back.
• March 2008: Work retreat at Morro Bay, California

Most of these had pictures to go along with them, which can be found online if you are on my facebook. So, its been a busy 12 months. Well, let’s hope that I don’t continue to neglect my blog. Thanks for reading!

And it sounds like its basically the same stuff all over again, too. Same story, different people. Funny how things work out that way.

My new goal for this blog is to write posts that get comments. And lots of them. More than can be counted. Probably as many as the Ashlee Simpson (43) post, or maybe even the Numa Numa kid (31) post. Can this goal be achieved? Doubtful. But I’m going to try anyway.

One of the worst feeelings is knowing what you need to do, and yet not doing it for one reason or another. Typically those reasons include fear of accomplishment or rejection, but mostly the reasons include inventions of previous “responsibilities” that should be completed before you can move on to the fun things.

Graduating from Rose-Hulman is one of those things that I typically use as a mask for doing what I really want to do. Because as we all know by now, I do not want to graduate from Rose-Hulman anymore. Yet I constantly say that doing what I really want will get in the way of accomplishing the goal of graduating.

Funny how it works out that way. The things in life that make you happy should take precedence, should they not?

Especially when there is absolutely nothing keeping me from concurrently accomplishing my goals. One of lifes greatest gifts is its ability to be non-linear. Maybe I should learn to multi-task.

I think that I have finally come to realize that this is going to be in my head for the rest of my life.

Even when I am going to be a 90 year old man, there is not a thing in the world I will be able to do to escape this reality. I have decided to accept it as a fact of life.

This new design that I wrote (from scratch) looks totally awesome. And I re-invented those images from a website I made 4 years ago. Photoshop can do some really pretty things.

The last seven posts have all been one or two sentences?

If I had anything to say, I would probably say it.

I visited my old journal… its not there anymore, but if i log in I can still read the entries. I haven’t posted in that for over a year and a half. Who was I two years ago? I don’t even know anymore.

I found this article today, talking about My Space. I don’t even have a myspace profile, in fact I had to block it from being able to link images from monhaut.com because about 693240934 dweebs were using a picture hosted on my site in their profiles… which goes along with the first paragraph:

My Space is like a heroine addiction without the upside. If you visit Gorilla Mask’s meaning for each type of My Space photo you’ll see the first part of the problem. No one knows how to take a picture anymore. Essentially there are four types of pictures found on My Space. The trendy “I can take pictures off myself in the mirror” photo, the “I’m way too ugly or trying to be too hip to use my real photo” image, the “I’m hideously deformed and want to use a picture of me from far away” photo, and the “look at my dog / booze / make up / left over crack” shot. Just take a picture of yourself and use it. You shouldn’t care what others think about your appearance, and if you have enough self confidence to post your profile on a site used by over five million people you have enough self confidence to post a photo of yourself. But don’t use one of those four kinds of pictures. They’re dumb, unoriginal, and I rather look at topographical maps than look at your uninspiring photo contribution to the world.

And I got to thinking. I do use thefacebook, and I’ve noticed a lot of these types of pictures. They’re usually just funny pictures, and if I already know who the person is its not that big a deal if they use something else. But the pictures of dogs (several people do this), mirror pictures, far far far away pictures… they are reall prevalent. Just take a freakin picture. I think I’ve always had a picture of me up on that, because its just easier that way.

Another thing is the people who can’t edit a picture. If you want to cut people out of pictures, thats fine. But don’t open MSPaint, and erase them, because that doesn’t change the size of the picture… it just makes a big white spot. Then when someone looks at your picture, its too small because thefacebook (correctly) thinks that your picture is the whole thing.
