It is Saint Patrick’s Day, and I’m home. Sick.
Sweet, a fever and I’m sore all over. At least it made me go buy orange juice. I love orange juice.

Recently I’ve been doing some low-level searching of apartments in Bakersfield. Luckily, it seems like even though it is California, Bakersfield is quite reasonably priced in terms of housing. Sure, I’m going to be paying a little bit more than if I were in Oklahoma or Indiana, but its probably less than Chicago. I’m looking at probably less than a dollar per square foot. I saw a few listings for 1000 sqft places that were about $850, and thats way more than I need. I don’t know what my needs will be, if I plan on having a roommate or not, and what part of town I want to live in.
I’ve been thinking about cars, too. Do I want to buy a truck? Maybe that Silverado I’ve been wanting? Or go for a smaller car? Do I buy it in Indiana, Oklahoma, or California? So many choices.
What was it like for some of you who moved out for the first time, possibly on your own? Its a different situation than Terre Haute, where everyone knows about VQ or 6th Street. This is a new city, one that I’ve only spent a few days in. I’ve been thinking that a good idea would be to go back with my dad, probably for a few days, and just look around. He has a college buddy that lives in Bakersfield now, so he could give us some pointers.
Lots of decisions to make, and just a few months to make them. Ready to graduate, and get out of here.
The last two weeks have been full of interviews. I’ve been to Indy, Missouri, California, and Chicago. Several of those companies have gotten back to me, but one of those companies, Frito-Lay in Bakersfield, CA, offered me the job I want. And I am going to accept.
I absolutely loved everything about Bakersfield, and they showed me a great time while I was down there. And in a few months, I am going to love living there. The job meets all of my job requirements that I set for myself:
I am going to absolutely love it.
