Action 10 broadcast of Protest Rally

As most of you are aware, a protest rally was organized and promoted by the informative website AboutMidgley.com on Friday, 29 April 2005. Featuring debate, speeches, and students bearing signs (not to mention free t-shirts and a pig roast), the protest rally served to inform not only the student body but also the people of Terre Haute and beyond of the current state of affairs on the Rose-Hulman campus.

I did not attend today’s protest. While I don’t agree with the premise, I certainly understand my colleagues’ wishes to make known to the administration and the board of trustees their disapproval of Jack Midgley. The things that he has done have seemed suspicious, and many times without legitimate excuse. However, I don’t approve of the negative publicity this will attract.

I came to Rose-Hulman because it is the best. My father came to Rose-Hulman because it is the best. For the past six years, US News and World Reports have ranked our school as “#1: The Best”. I would hate for the reason that we don’t continue to receive this honor be that students rose in protest against our leader. It would be ironic if Jack had nothing to do with our losing that recognition, but our own headstrong students.

Having said that, I have recorded the 55 second spot that ran on tonight’s Action 10 News at 6. (You need the xvid codec in order to watch, if you don’t have it already.)

Action 10 News

I’m glad that people feel that something needs to be done and that they take a stand; inviting the public, especially the media, however, was probably not prudent. This is our matter, something we need to work out on our own.

Busy Week

Its been a busy week, so I haven’t had time to update. Not much has happened, just a lot of tests and getting things done. I might have a job in Terre Haute this summer, which would be great because a bunch of friends are staying as well. Better than going back to Tulsa. This was one hell of a weekend, I left here on Friday after dinner and didn’t get back until Sunday afternoon. Lots of stuff happened. Many drinks were consumed.

Its Monday now and the start of a new week.

Model EU Simulation

This weekend was the Model European Union Simulation at IUPUI in Indianapolis. Our school was representing Slovakia, and I was representing the Minister of Agriculture. Sitting in a room with 23 countries and discussing agriculture for 3 days may not seem like fun, but I actually ended up enjoying it. Representing a small country like Slovakia definitely did not sit well with my loud outspoken nature, but I still found a way to make my presense known.

I got to meet a lot of interesting people, and hear different sides of issues relating to the EU and Europe as a whole. I think that I am definitely going to be attempting to go to law school after I graduate, I just need to take the LSATs and apply to schools, and try and get scholarships. Being in an organization that is governed by rules of order, like the SGA or the EU simulation, is an appealing concept to me. I don’t know what it is, but I enjoy politics. And when you can leave the room and still be friends with someone you were just arguing with, I know that it can’t all be that bad.

Spring Break 2005

Florida was awesome. To see the pics, http://photoblog.monhaut.com.

Foam party on Friday night was fun, but it was freezing cold and it was raining that night. We left early, about 1am, to go back to sixth street. The next day we all got up pretty early to get ready. We were going to take Ryan’s car, but after we got all five people and our bags in the car, the tires were touching the hubs. So we got all the stuff out and decided to take my car to Dayton. We took Andrew’s mom’s car down to GA because it gets awesome gas milage. We left Dayton at 8pm, and got to Savana about 8am the next day and to St Marys at noon.

We went to the beach in Jacksonville and St Augustine Sunday, Monday, Wednesday. We went to the Ritz-Carlton Tuesday night and snuck in to the hottub and stole some towels. We went to Fort Mose and the Castillo de San Marcos on Wednesday. I took lots of pictures of the fort.

Everything else we did is pretty much documented in the photoblog, so just check that out.
