Haircut

So, mostly because of Spring Break, partly because its spring, and partly because it was bugging the hell out of me, I went to Ray’s and got a haircut this morning. It’s official, that’s the longest I’ve gone without a haircut in probably my entire life. I got a haircut over thanksgiving break, made it all the way to the weekend before Valentines day and got it trimmed just a little bit (because it was hanging over my ears), and then finally cut it today. My hair was ridiculously long. I don’t think I would have made it to May. Anyway, I got it cut pretty short, so I had to trim the beard, too.

Today was such an awesome day that I drove around with the windows down. Gotta love the cool breeze as it flows through the car!

Foam party Friday night, driving to Georgia all day Saturday. Spring break is going to be incredible.

Free Bdubs

The Junior class president decided to use our class money to buy a metric shit-ton of wings from Buffalo Wild, and we gladly accepted. I went with Phil and the sixth street guys around 5:30, and when they brought out the first batch of baskets we grabbed a whole basket for our table. We were going through those baskets about 1 every two minutes. We easily ate at least a hundred, just the six of us. Most of us stayed til 7, when they brought out the last basket. I won one of the trivia games, the one about movies. Bdubs rocks. Free Bdubs rocks more.

The Weather Outside

The weather outside is just absolutely perfect. 70 degrees. I’m wearing shorts for the third day in a row, and I put my jacket away in the closet. God willing, it will be like this for the rest of spring.

Bring out the sandals, put on the sunglasses. Its springtime!

ECE362

Check out my wicked sweet ECE362 - Engineering Design webpage:

http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~monhaued/ECE362/

So I spent entirely too much time designing it and making it fit. Luckily, I borrowed the stylesheet from one of the ones I had already edited before (some of you might recognize it as one of my past blog stylesheets). CSS is awesome. Anyway, I guess it was fun relearning some old HTML skills… I learned HTML 3.2 back in the day, and since then HTML 4.0 and XHTML 1.0 have come out to replace it. Not much has changed, just some updated standards. Validating my code may have took a while, but at least the results look great.

I’m famous

My ECE361 team was interviewed for an article posted on the Rose-Hulman news site, by Dale Long. The article talks about our team, The Spammish Soccer Moms, and how we fared during the competition. We earned 112 points on 56 scored goals and took second place in the competition of 15 total teams.

The Spammish Soccer Moms, consisting of four male students, came up with a rapid-fire scoring machine (112 points) after two and a half design attempts and 175 lines of computer software code, according to Eric Monhaut, a junior electrical engineering major. Other team members were juniors Daniel Forbess, Curtis Rhodes, and Todd Taft.

“We were confident that we could score over 100 points (within the four-minute time period) and be one of the top teams in the competition,” Monhaut stated. “We may not have won, but we had a lot of fun and learned a lot about teamwork and computer programming.”

Referrer Spam

I just updated my .htaccess file with some keyword filters for blocking referrer spam. This might help keep my comments from getting spammed. Checking my server logs for referring sites gives me some weird places… If this causes anyone any problems, e-mail me. It shouldn’t, but it might.

Its sad that spammers have chosen that line of work, and its even sadder that they make money from it.

New Photoblog

I installed a new photoblog this weekend, http://photoblog.monhaut.com. I haven’t really started adding pictures yet, just one album. I need to figure out what features it has, and then I can start adding files. Hopefully I can integrate it into Wordpress so that I can use pictures from there in here randomly. Anyhoo, give it a look, let me know what you think.

The backend is Coppermine Photoblog software, which lets me add albums and pictures in different categories. There should be a whole lot of features that it can use. Hopefully I actually get some sort of use out of it, and don’t let it fall off the wayside. I haven’t been taking pictures much with my camera this year.

Maxim Helps You Cheat

Was reading the newest issue of Maxim, and noticed an article about cheating on your significant other. It was mostly stories about guys who cheated on their girlfriends, and whether or not the girls had found out and what happened as a result. One guy cheated on his girlfriend because she cheated on him, and he wanted revenge. I think it was alcohol-induced.

There was also a top ten list of “things that will make her cheat on you,” my personal favorite being “she’s got a male friend who’s just waiting for you to make one wrong move (and trust us, you will).”

Not that I considered this article factual in anyway, shape, or form. But it did kind of make me wonder what exactly it is that makes someone in a relationship want to cheat on the other. If you’re willing to cheat on her/him, you might as well let them know beforehand. Then, not only are you no longer dating someone that you obviously don’t care about, but you also are perfectly free to shag all night long with numerous sexual partners. Then your signifcant other doesn’t get two punches in the face at the same time when he/she finds out.

What really threw me off was the number of guys who had said their girlfriends/ex-gfs never found out they had been cheated on. I guess that’s to be expected when you don’t know how the innocent party will react to the news.

Bdubs

Last night, I went to meet a few people at Bdubs (Buffalo Wild Wings, for the uninitiated). Tuesdays are 35cent wings and 23oz Amber Bocks for $2.75. Can’t beat that deal. After Bdubs, I went over to sixth street and played some Monopoly. I ended up winning the game, but mostly because I somehow landed on every single railroad on my first turn around the board. (I ended up landing on my own railroad again, making that 5 railroads in a row). I made two trades, and got the red properties, and quickly built houses. I got screwed and landed on someone else’s house, but instead of making a crappy deal for the greens, I mortgaged my railroads to pay him off. It worked out, cause I got him to land on my red houses 3 times in a row after that.

Anyhoo, its Wednesday and I only have one class today at 2:30, so I got to sleep in. The rest of the week sucks, but at least I have today off.

We decided we’re going to Florida for Spring Break. At least 8 of us (possibly 12 or more) will be caravan-ing down to Florida. It should be kick-ass, even though its at least a 16 hour drive.

New Server

For those of you interested, monhaut.com has been transferred to a new server. I gave the old guys the boot, and I’m going to see if I can get a refund on the rest of my year with them. Luckily I only bought one year instead of two, or else I’d be out a lot of money.
